As far as the App is concerned, you are locked in once you've agreed to a particular room. Sometimes there isn't a room available at that moment, so you can check in at that point and the room gets allocated to you later. In both scenarios, you can't then use the App to choose another room, nor can you see what is available.
This is really helpful - thank you. It was what I had thought; I'm pretty sure I tried it and couldn't get additional rooms to appear.
I think the consistent advice on this forum has been to accept a specific room at OLCI IF it is a room I want and especially if an upgrade has been awarded. If an upgrade hasn't yet been awarded or if I don't like the rooms available then better to choose a room at the front desk. If it is a lower brand hotel and the hotel is full then I would probably choose a room at OLCI anyway.
I definitely recall a thread some time back saying don't take a room you definitely do not want as sometimes the front desk won't change it if I "chose" that room already.
