This is really helpful - thank you. It was what I had thought; I'm pretty sure I tried it and couldn't get additional rooms to appear.

I think the consistent advice on this forum has been to accept a specific room at OLCI IF it is a room I want and especially if an upgrade has been awarded. If an upgrade hasn't yet been awarded or if I don't like the rooms available then better to choose a room at the front desk. If it is a lower brand hotel and the hotel is full then I would probably choose a room at OLCI anyway.

I definitely recall a thread some time back saying don't take a room you definitely do not want as sometimes the front desk won't change it if I "chose" that room already.
