My only thought is if you haven’t booked the ticket yet I would have it on one booking through BA, that way if there are any issues with your Lisbon flight your connection is protected and BA will have to get you across the pond. If the TAP is late and you miss your connection, well it’s on you
Would that still be the case if the two BA flights were separate bookings? LHR-ORD was an Avios booking but LIS-LHR would be cash.
