I asked about an upgrade to a club room on check-in, and they were willing to give it to me except it would be a smoking room AND I’d have to change rooms during my stay, so I declined.
I must have had very low expectations, because I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the room was perfectly serviceable and kept clean. The bathroom is a prefab construction and is clearly an older design, but it was functional and the water pressure decent.
The breakfast had a made-to-order egg station (Japanese omelettes and also fried) and a soft serve ice cream machine, which went nicely with the corn flakes from the cereal section. Platinum and Diamond IHG members are given a welcome lemonade at breakfast as well as a premium coffee menu - the lattes were weak, filled the maybe 10 oz mug half-way, and refills were never offered.
Overall between the reasonable rate, IHG perks, and the unbeatable location near the Hakata Station, I was satisfied with my stay.
