Let me try to explain this a little more clearly

If the qualification for Ambassador status is 100 nights and $23k, then the average room rate that suggests is $230 USD in the US-centric Marriott world. Clearly there are large swings...much higher if you are looking at the St. Regis in Manhattan, much lower if you are looking at the Aloft in Buffalo or the Element in Omaha.

That would work out to $322 CAD which I can assure you is not the average room rate in Canada. The suggestion is that if the avg. room rate in Canada is $250 CAD then the Ambassador threshold for Bonvoy members in Canada should be $25k CAD.

Likewise if the avg. nightly rate in MEX is 3850 Pesos ($200 USD) then the threshold would be 385,000 Pesos.

I don't think that is a ridiculous concept, but whatever, drag away...this is FT after all!
How many Ambassadors get their 100 nights by purely staying domestically? And I wish I would get $322 rates in Canada where I am staying - both my upcoming YVR and a December YYZ stay are more than that. Not sure there is such thing as 'average' cost per hotel room and country statistics.
