I’m looking to go from ORD-LGA then LGA - BOS a few days later. I have had a look at booking ORD-LGA and it’s coming out at 12,000 avios and a small amount of tax.
A separate LGA-BOS search comes up with the same numbers.
Is it possible to do as one booking, and if so is there actually any advantage in doing so i.e a slight reduction in avios required?
No. When booking with Avios through BAEC you are charged avios per segment. While you might be able to save a little on taxes if you were booking ORD-LGA-BOS for travel the same day if these were on a single ticket you would still pay the avios cost for each segment.
When you can save a little on avios is when AA offers a direct flight through another city with a single flight number. For example, if AA has a JFK-(DFW)-PHX with a single flight number (even if you change planes at DFW) you would only pay the avios for JFK-PHX; but this would only apply if you flew straight thru -- that is no stopping over in the middle.
