I’m planning a JFK-LHR trip for December/Jan; the difference between basic economy and standard economy is approx $1k each way (never seen it so high!).

Wanted to sense check with this group - presumably as a gold member I can choose my seat, I believe the gold baggage allowance doesn’t apply to basic economy, would I be able to pay to add a bag?
