Even though they segregate bookings based on ctrip v trip, it's still the same company and the people who actually deal with airlines on your behalf are the same. But, I usually book flights through the Chinese site/app when flying Chinese airlines or any flights departing from China. I book over the phone on occasion too (just as fast as the internet if you have a profile set up).
