They can easily send a replacement plane for EWR-GOH, it's only 1,860 miles away. It's shorter or similar length to a lot of 1x weekly flights on EWR-Caribbean (ANU, SKB, UVF, DOM, etc.). And you don't hear a whole lot about IRROPS involving those routes.

Not sure what codeshare has to do with the mileage programs. If UA makes award space available, then that flight can be redeemed, regardless of codeshare.
