It depends on the hotel. Some would email me saying my room is available at 9am, while some send me a very diplomatic response saying my early check in request is "noted" but don't say when the room is gonna be ready. Some properties, such as some airport hotels, sell lots of day rooms, so early check in is pretty much impossible.
