What route are you flying? Short haul like Seoul, Taiwan, Hong Kong is probably difficult to argue, and maybe not that important. Mid haul like Bangkok, Vietnam, Singapore, probably more of an argument.
But it will be United you'd have to talk to if the ticket is issued by United.
