Agree with all the above. This year I have had 8 legs between LAX and TYO upgraded with plus points. Flexibility and this particular route helped. I have an upcoming LAX-EWR and I will probably be deep in the waitlist with zero chance for an upgrade, assuming there is even one seat available in F which is unlikely.
