So I'm curious: For those who end up with eUps to spare - do you just buy a lot of J tickets? Do you use a flight pass with "free" upgrades? Do you simply not sit in J very much?
A single ULH upgrade from Y can cost 23 eUps, the return means that I can go through almost 50 eUps in a single trip ... even buying PY I can still spend 35 eUps on a single RT ... how do you "eUp rich" people manage your travel?
Combination of those things. My employer only books eco flex. My strategy is that I don’t really worry about points very much and mostly just care about status. So, I’ll burn points into AC gift cards when they do the promotions to buy them for less points.
I then upfare the outbound on my ULH’s with gift cards (which also gets me SS access). I’ll then often eUp the return leg. Only eUps for the usual TATL’s. I’m not eUp “rich”, but I have enough generally under this strategy to not have to sit in Y very often.
SE, so 70 to start, and I earn over 140k SQM so that’s another 60. 130 let’s me upgrade about 6 one ways, so I don’t really need to ration but earn enough that I don’t stress over them either.
I do about 3 ULH’s and 4-5 TATL’s a year. This earns me about 100k SQM at least and then I’ve been perpetually rolling over 40-60k with the credit card.
The points>gift cards>upfare strategy also ensures I hit the SQD requirement, which wouldn’t otherwise (organically hit about 17k SQD per year with current travel patterns).
