Comparing our late May stay where the lounge was indeed superb to now, second stay, it is like a totally different hotel. The afternoon tea has been reduced to a plate of small scones that are not replaced when the plate runs out, and a few small desserts. The evening service still has alcoholic drinks while the food has drastically cut to hardly anything, and day to day only one item changes (a cold seafood item). The only hot item is a deep fried potato thing. Staff say May was 'opening menu' and this is 'seasonal menu change' but even they have trouble pretending it isn't deep cuts. Now it is more like the typical, generally disappointing hotel lounges in Japan; usually we book hotels that do not have lounges so we can ensure restaurant breakfast. If we hadn't had the May stay were would say this is typical for the market and shrugged. Having had the May stay, we would have moved hotels after the first night if hotels in town weren't packed for the holiday weekend.

Restaurant breakfast has maintained the same quality.

Lots of guests are families that are part of Hilton Grand Vacations on Universal Studios trips, so expect Minions dolls at breakfast.

The rooms have differences in size within each type. Book a twin room if you can, those are generally bigger. Within king rooms there are some that are shoebox size where you can barely squeeze past the bed to the window (like 2004 on the lounge level) to some slightly bigger if designed to accommodate roll-away bed, or smaller again if they have a bathtub. Have staff show you the room. The River Side rooms overlook commuter rail tracks that you'll hear a little rumble as trains pass under.

Breakfast is very good. It is offered for Gold and Diamond in the brestaurant on floor 6, same floor where reception is located. Great buffet with western, Japanese and Asian choices and cooked to order eggs if needed.

Lounge offering is exceptional for a DoubleTree. They offer afternoon tea between 2.00 and 4.00 pm and cocktail hours from 5.00 to 7.00 pm. .
During afternoon tea I counted at least 4 different cakes available and other 4 desserts plus some fruits, few savoury snacks with tea coffee fruit juice and soft drinks.
During the cocktails hours they offered 4 hot dishes, cold cuts including veals and salmon: olives, and few other savoury snacks. A variety of alcoholic beverages was available with all the usual spirits, red and white wines, a Prosecco, a rosé and beer.
