Return flight cancelled, rebooked 2 days later, duty of care?
Friends have contacted me as their “travel guru” for advice. I think I know the answers but wanted to double check on here. I have re read the flight disruption thread.
The return flight from the west coast of US, Portland I think but not 100% sure, was cancelled 14.5 days before due to fly. The outbound flight has already been taken and they are in the US. The only alternatives they were offered were 2 days earlier or 2 days later. I am guessing that if they had called BA they could have been offered something more suitable but sounds like they reluctantly accepted the later flight online, extended their holiday and booked an Airbnb for 2 nights. They are asking me about compensation and duty of care.
I think they just miss out on EC261 although I will get them to triple check that it is more than 14 days. It might be worth submitting a claim anyway.
I think BA should pay up to £200 per
night compensation for accommodation and food within reason but not alcohol if they submit relevant receipts.
If BA don’t pay up then hopefully insurance will.
Do you think this is right?
