In both scenarios, you can't then use the App to choose another room, nor can you see what is available. However you can easily be moved to another room by the hotel, either by using the Chat function or by calling at the front desk. Personally I would never use the App to select a room I would be unhappy with, that defeats the object of the exercise as far as I am concerned. If I see a room I'm very happy to take then I will book it in OLCI.
Here is a concrete example: Hilton at BOS Airport tends to allocate the top two floors to Diamond members and those who pay for the higher floor or deluxe room options. I dislike the top floor, floor 10, since there are turbines on the roof and I can feel them vibrating on floor 10. Floor 9, on the other hand, no problem at all. So if I see a reasonable floor 9 room at OLCI then I would take it as soon as it shows. If only floor 10 was open, I would simply look again later, or use Chat, or go to the front desk. I wouldn't accept a sub optimal room on floor 10 via the App.
Thanks! And amazingly, the Hilton Boston Airport is where I’m staying tonight, and where I had selected a 9th floor room looking toward the airfield. With luck, that might clear the parking garage…
