Room is big even by American standards, full king bed and a separate sitting area.
Bathroom was a bit strange to us, first thing and my wife says this at most "nicer" Hyatt's is the lighting in the bathroom is not great and I agree it's a bit dim. The main strange thing is the toilet area is all glass walls. The shower being all glass is fine but why would I want to be able to see my partner using the toilet while I brush my teeth or shower? Also I have to think people walk into the door all the time especially using the bathroom at night.
Staff was very nice, no problem holding bags before or after check in/out. Got a free welcome drink and snack in the lobby when we checked in. More of a laid back casual vibe which we like, but some people might expect a bit more for an "upscale" hotel. I know it's not a park Hyatt but I guess I just don't really understand what the Thompson brand is going for, should have stayed a night at the nearby Hyatt Centric to see what the difference was.
Value for 20,000 points was fine, but I can't say I'd be jumping at the chance to pay $400 or more a night to stay here.
My opinion is very similar to yours. I stayed here a few weeks ago and while it is a good hotel with solid product, I can hardly understand the hype and the price.
While I'm globalist, no welcome drink for me.
I checked-in around 2pm, sooner than supposed to (normal check-in is 3pm) and I was told that the room was not ready yet as I had arrived early, so I decided to head for lunch. When I came back (an hour later), I'm told that there is a globalist in the room who will only leave by 4pm and then they'll need to prepare the room. They understood the mistep and placed me in another room that was already prepared for a couple on honeymoon but still a poor start.
Breakfast for "VIP" guests in on the top floor, exclusively, and it will only be open at 7h30 during the weekends which was troublesome as I had some meetings starting at 8am 15min from the hotel and the solution was a pre-packed breakfast to take away.
Service in the bar around the pool area was also a bit lacking (waiters are kind and helpfull but they had too many guests there for just 1 person doing all the work)
