I booked a flight IAD-SFO months ago on 787-9. I reserved seat 21J and many other seats in row 20-22 were reserved. This AM woke up and noted when looking at the seat map all the Purple Seats were empty and I was moved to regular economy since economy plus was not longer available. I called and was told by a supervisor that the policy is those seats can’t be reserved and are issued at the airport on DoD. This isn’t what has happened in the past. Curious if others have seen this and if this represents a change?
Note if it's actually purple seats on the seatmap, you can never select them on an Economy fare because it's a different cabin. If they are blue seats on the seatmap where the PE seats belong, those should be selectable. Generally it depends on whether UA is selling PE on the route (they don't on IAD-SFO).
