Great, well, I hope you have a a good trip and find some nice places to spend those FNCs. I feel KL (or Thailand) could give good FNC value on this trip, easy to check anyway. Sounds like you have a good concept of value if you've managed to accrue 10 certs for sure .

The posts may be right, the good reason for staying overnight is that it quietens down significantly when the day tourists leave, and is still kinda cute. I will caution that whilst I know what people mean about it being spoiled, but having visited places in Europe or China that really do have massive crowds, I think Hội An adds onto a trip and still has a certain charm (probably nothing compared to a decade ago of course). It really can be a nightmare if it is a Chinese or Vietnamese public holiday / typical holiday period. Whether it is worth the hassle of changing hotels (note that the ones at Hội An can be quite nice) is for you to decide, sounds like you've thought it through properly of course. The same friends who stayed at the Marriott said they wish they'd split the trip 3 nights resort + 2 nights Hội An, however they live in HK and were travelling with family from the Mainland so are used to crowds - it was a Chinese public holiday too ... would probably be my personal nightmare (I tend to go to another continent when team China goes on their golden weeks as just a sheer weight of numbers affects all the nearby destinations)
