Vueling always lie and make up some excuse for not paying compensation. You will have to take Vueling to MCOL.
It is very, very unlikely that ATC allowed the plane to leave the gate but changed their minds before take-off. Most of the time, in my experience, we wait at the gate until the flight plan is cleared to go by ATC.
