Until such time as Alaska allows multiple partners on awards you'll have to live with these limitations. IMO for economy booking you may well be better off using AA miles for a RDU-JFK-HKG award and then using AS miles for a HKG-Asia short hop, and "build in" a HKG stopover.
Thanks, good to know. I never check luggage, so that won't impact me. I ran out of AA miles, sadly. Didn't think about issues with the first flight. Guess I could book an earlier flight to JFK, hopefully leaving some wiggle room in case of problems at RDU.
