Boarding pass scan to enter the security queue, clear security, then you're in the airside area of the terminal with lounges and gates. The only time anyone looks at your passport is at the gate during boarding.

I've flown LHR-RDU (9:30a departure) 3 times recently, Jun, Aug, Sep. I typically arrive at 8am which still allows 30 mins of lounge time, all I need at that hour.

Even if there's a short to moderate line at AA check-in and security, you should be through both in 30 mins, 15-20 most likely.

haven’t departed t3 in ages, looking at the map, far more compact than t5, no satellite gates.

so unless 11Am is more crowded than your 9:30 departure, then 9:00 should give me an hour in the lounge.
