I'd also say pre-COVID, it was much easier to book a shorter connection. Sometimes 5 hours is all I can get, when I really just want enough time to grab a meal in the SS.

the funny thing is that when I’m traveling for work, I’m far more likely to spend a long time at the airport. But that’s due to our travel policy, I suppose. My clock starts when I lock my front door, and stops when I walk into my hotel room at the other end. While I don’t get paid OT for travel, every hour I’m in transit equates to an hour of vacation time later. So yeah, I always make sure to be at the airport at least 3 hours early.

but since I’m also usually traveling with a tool chest, one never knows what might happen with CATSA or other airline security authorities.
