I see a lot of availability at 4.5k. That should open a lot of doors for me. Do you know why it has to be booked as a separate award segment? I see that it's with AA. Is that why?

Since I'd like to visit HKG, that could open a lot of doors to me using HKG as a free stopover on CX flights, then onward elsewhere in Asia.
