I doubt a Middle Eastern carrier would refund you because you object to a flight path, so suspect that your options are limited to your fare type and corresponding rules. What’s your point of origin?
Yes I suspect I'll just have to eat the cancellation fee (and what I paid for seats). Luckily there's a still a reasonably priced alternative going. Point of origin is Chicago, in case that makes any difference.
