Update: OCT 2024

And just like that,
a wonderful stay at IC AMS comes to an end.

We had a great weekend, although everyone knows the rooms are a bit older, i encountered no problems.
The next post will show you our rooms.
The hotel was bustling last weekend, as weather was sunny as in a true Indian summer,
Glad to report, i still experienced warm hospitality even though the whole team is kept in uncertainty about a possible rebranding,
There were a bunch of new fresh faces across reception, health club and housekeeping but all encounters were posittive as they had been properly trained by Duncan & Kelly. The Amstel restaurant morning team had warm familiair faces with Lotte, Estelle and Virgina, with a new support team trained by Floris. A very smooth breakfast / lunch operation as on Saturday & Sunday the hotel was at 90% capacity occupancy.
B42 : you'd be happy to hear the duo of Mr. Ted & Mr. Hans with their team are still offering a comfortable dining experience at the Amstel restaurant.

I'll start with some news and latests tidbits in information.
I cannot divulge to much on the society party,
there were some faces that were freshly nip, tucked and lifted,
so cameras and phones were strictly forbidden!

Let's start

Outside street parking
Is now a whopping €7,50 an hour at 24/7, the whole year.
As such i implore future guests to email reservations to book a parking spot as valet service at Amstel's parking garage.
Spaces are limited and especially quite popular with weekenders.
In & out priviliges are possible.

Tauck travel
The hotel has a renewed contract with Tauck travel to offer pre/post/excursion stays.

It seems for a period the W and the Pullitzer was also offered as preferred hotels but due to feedback that those 2 hotels were to hip&trendy for the 70+crowd, and that the Tauck transport providers (bus) were always stuck or delayed due to "binnenstad" traffic congestion chaos, the switch has been made to Kimpton de Witt (better accessibility + deluxe hotel offering in pricing) and IC AMS (beter accessibility + luxury hotel offering in pricing.
As such, you will encounter at breakfast many Americans on certain days with very specific coffee orders:
"can i have a skinny soy latte with tripple shot de-caf espresso with stevia sweetner on top a creamer of oat in a to go cup"
Good thing the Amstel restaurant breakfast team can mimic Starbucks barristas in providing a coffee with a meticolous composition.

Accesibility for the impaired
As i mentioned before, some society members were nip, tucked and lifted,
while others have had some body works done in hips, knees, joints and much else.
Think the bionic pairs in the 6 million dollar man & the bionic woman.
As such i can report:
Spoiler

With Mr. Boukhir & Mr. Abdul being ever so kind and patient to assist the society members in helping to acces the hotel.

Afternoon tea
The current setting for this autumn and winter period is the conservatory "serre" Amstel lounge over looking the river.

New addition to the pillow menu.
Most people have a tendency to associate luxury hotel stays with soft fluffy plush feathery pillows.
I understand the gist of cloud 9, 7th heaven,
but as i am built in the chunky, stocky version,
if i lay my head down, i sink away surrounded by white pillow on each side of my face.
How people can sleep on a soft pillow that will deflate to the thickness of a papersheet, boggles my mind!
Fortunate the hotels a offeres a new choice in stock:

And with that, let's continue.....
