I'm going over your JL J descriptions with lots of interest, because even though I've been to Japan numerous times, until now I never had the funds (or the willingness to splurge them) to go for anything more than Y. But as you grow older... so my first JL J is about to happen soon.

It's sometimes hard to separate the "first world complaints" about airlines and how X, Y and Z do this-and-that better than another without too much experience, so I find it very refreshing to read the travel reports. Otherwise you can end up second-guessing yourself whatever you do!
