Even if sites / services weren't blocked. The DOH wifi is just God Awful. So slow and nearly unusable. I just tether on my Japanese sim card when there. If I didn't have that option then I'd definitely get an e-Sim day plan with a few GB on it. (depending on the length of layover, but most of my DOH layovers are long)

Yes OpenVPN is blocked, not only do they block its default port, they block the entire IP so its more intelligent.
For work we use Citrix and that have never been a problem for me. Everything else have also worked but I mostly surf news sites, Facebook, LinkedIn etc.
Speeds have also been good for most of the times.
I don't use the airport WiFi at all, just the wifi at the QR lounges as AM and AS.
I'm pretty sure they don't have their own wifi, not that I've ever seen at least. Just the general DOH public wifi.
