Excellent stay at Sofitel Ambassador Seoul

I stayed 4 nights for business in this truly beautiful hotel. I enjoyed it very much and can’t wait to return. This is really an excellent Sofitel for both the hard product and also the quality of the service delivered by the staff, especially at the Club Millésime.

This hotel has been already well reviewed recently by Orbitmic and FlytheTail, so I won’t repeat everything.

I already had a good impression before the stay as I received an email from the hotel, confirming my booking, asking for confirmation of my preferences, the eligibility to Club lounge and various benefits due to Diamond status and my estimated arrival time. I needed an early check-in (around 10 am). The response was quickly received confirming they will take my preferences into account. As usual, early check-in was not confirmed at that stage, but they said they will do their best.

Arriving at the hotel, I was immediately bring to the Club on the 32nd floor for check-in operations. I was stunned by the view on the Lotte World Tower, the big tower facing the hotel and which is the tallest building in Korea. I was given all explanations about the different restaurants and cafés of the hotel, how and where to enjoy the drink voucher, lounge operations and the required advance bookings for lounge evening cocktail time and swimming pool during the weekends. Booking process is simple, either via the lounge staff or via a kind of tablet in the room.

The room was ready. I booked a “magnifique room” and was upgraded to “Luxury lake view” room on the 28th floor, having the same view as from the lounge. I took several pictures from my room at different times of the day. I post some here and my preferred ones are those 2 taken early morning with a beautiful sunlight on the tower and on the city.

At sunset :

Here are pictures of the room. Everything was spotless in perfect condition. Very comfortable and soundproofed. A kind of tablet allows to control all lights, curtains, room service orders, pool slot booking during weekends, etc. This tablet also serves as bluetooth speaker. The only thing I was not a fan of was the sink in the corridor and not in a separate room. This was a business trip in solo so no problem, but I would not like this when being 2 in the room. A separate room had a bathtub, walk-in shower and toilets. There was a Nespresso machine, bathrobe, slippers. Plenty of water bottles provided.

Turndown service is provided every evening (and you can choose your time).

The welcome amenity (some sweets and a bottle of wine) and letter.

F&B

As explained by Orbitmic, this hotel is definitely more on the French side than on the Korean side for F&B. There are several cafés, bars and restaurants. I had a lunch at Fait Maison, and had a delicious veal blanquette (not very Korean, I know ). I had a drink at the Latitude32 bar (on 32nd floor, near the lounge). Nice modern atmosphere with live music (pictures below).

Compared to previous reviews, the drink voucher can now be redeemed also at the Latitude32 bar but before 20:30. Otherwise, it’s at the 6th floor bar or in one of the restaurant.

The Club Millésime is definitely part of the great experience when staying at this hotel. Very large and with a good offering for breakfast and evening cocktail time. The hotel was quite busy when I was there, the lounge was often busy but never felt crowded or in zoo mode (I was there during the week). I had breakfast in the lounge, as I preferred the quietness and also the stunning view. Orbitmic described perfectly the food offering in his review : most of the things do not change each day but what is provided is of excellent quality. In the evening, a warm main dish (prepared on the spot) and a soup change every day. You can make your dinner with what they serve. I had some delicious lamb cutlets and curry chicken. For drinks, you have real Champagne (not just a basic sparkling wine) and several wines and they can prepare several cocktails.

During the week, the evening cocktail time is from 17:30 to 19:30, but during the weekend, it’s an extended time as they operate 2 shifts (17:30 to 19:00 and 19:30 to 21:00) with prior booking.

The lounge staff was really outstanding. They do everything to make your experience great and memorable.

The pool is as described by Orbitmic : nice but often with a lot of people and noisy. I have been once and despite it was during the week, there were a lot of shouting kids and, after 45 min there, I had enough. I can’t imagine how it would be during the weekend with all staycationers.

Overall, an excellent stay. I really love this hotel that is certainly one of my preferred Sofitel in the world, after Sofitel Angkor of course .
