Growing up in Brooklyn, everyone said Shul. Living in the suburbs, I don't know what to say as I'm not sure where the audience is from. Drives me crazy (and now you).

I say "Shul" in Northern Cal from time to time, just to make heads spin in confusion.

Growing up in LA, super reformed, it was always the Temple. Those who attended the shul down the street went to the Synagogue
And living in Northern Cal for years, I've seen some supermarkets put a little "Jewish Food" holiday display for which, no matter the holiday, there are boxes of Matzo on display
