Trying to summarize options:

So it seems, after reading this and the Reddit thread, not to book AA on Cap1 travel portal in case of wanting to cancel to generate a trip/flight credit on AA.com

Unclear whether one can count on the United credit; last report is not online but over the phone works to cancel with United. Not sure if that’s been consistently reported.

I can easily use the credit on Alaska, Delta or United. Any similar issues to AA if cancelling and rebooking (I.e, costs more than booking direct)?

reports above seem split as to whether you can cancel on Delta.com to get a Delta e credit or first must change the flight.

I checked United on a flight I want to take- costs more on Cap1 as at the time I want to fly, they only offer refundable F, not discount F.
