My company has a policy that any international trip can only be booked at economy or premium economy with no exceptions and we must use their booking platform (Concur). I plan on upgrading to business on my own dime so want to find the cheapest way to do this.
I'm looking at SFO - SIN (direct) routes and see the following in Concur:
- SQ: Premium Economy Flexi (T, S) - $3,700
- UA: Premium Econ Fully Refundable (O) / Premium Economy (A) - $6,396
Which one do you think would set me up to have the lowest upgrade cost? And generally speaking, which is better to focus on when positioning for purchasing an upgrade?
If you’re talking about re-faring, which may not necessarily be the cheapest way to proceed, it’s going to be the difference in fare.
But I can’t imagine it really matters. There’s no justification for spending nearly twice as much to fly UA — and I say that as someone who hates the SQ business class seat on that route.
