I think the point is that regardless of whether or not that is the case, AA is more likely than not to stick to D0, regardless of the impact on connecting passengers who just miss the door closing by a few minutes.
Again, UA has very smartly implemented Connection Saver, which takes a bunch of factors into account when deciding whether to hold a flight.
AA seems to have neither the technological ability, or the customer service desire, to try anything similar.
