Hi everyone,
My flight BA4471 (DUB-LCY) on 26 September was cancelled 30mn before departure due to a "technical issue" (BA email at the time of cancellation). Looking at Twitter, I believe that it was due to a lightning strike on the inbound flight from LCY, but this was never mentioned by BA.
I have filed a claim for the statutory £220 compensation under UK261 with BA, which they refused, quoting them "Your claim's been refused because BA4471 on 26 September was cancelled because of aircraft damage."
They however agreed to pay my out of pocket expenses for the extra night I had to stay in Dublin.
My understanding is that aircraft damage/lightning strikes are a grey area when it comes to UK/EU261 compensation.
Do you think it's worth pursuing this with BA or escalating to CEDR or this is a lost cause?
Thanks for your help
