An update from two days ago at SFO. Wow. She made me place my hand luggage on the scale, made me place my laptop bag on at the same time, told me I was over total weight limit and she'd check the larger "for free" - after a bit of back and forth, she finally realized I was in the front cabin and permitted 15kg total, and tagged each bag - one for permitted carry on, and the other for "under seat" permitted. Some trips I'll even ask at check-in if I need a tag and they'll just wave me off and say no (but I don't want issues when connecting). Not this time.
