As I stay single-nights at both Marriott and Hyatt, I would argue that my single-night experiences with Marriott are better. For those who stay longer, they might find more value with Hyatt and using SUAs, but the differentiation between Elite tiers with Marriott vs. “either a Globalist or not” with Hyatt seems to affect my experience.
As a extreme example, I recently completed a night at the Köln Marriott and a night at the Hyatt Regency Köln - the Marriott upgraded me to their Presidential Suite (not typical for me, but still), and the Hyatt wouldn’t upgrade my standard room to even a river view until I asked specifically at check-in (and suites were showing available online). With Hyatt, I’m just another Globalist.
