**Edit - While Hertz couldn't make the change on the day of, I was able to rebook about 3 hours later.
So I found out that the reason I couldn't change (shorten) a reservation is that Hertz has the following process:
1. Cancel the original reservation
2. Wait 24 hours
3. Put in the new reservation
It can be bypassed with the Gold Plus line...but only if they're open (7 AM - 6 PM Eastern).
Just another customer-unfriendly policy on a laundry list of customer-unfriendly policies...
