I was looking again for any kind of deal on a rental car at LGW for a 4 or 5 day rental. I checked the usual places and the best price I could get was something like $280 plus taxes for a manual compact car.

Then I remembered that I have used baholidays.com before and got a great deal on a one day rental in Nice last year. I tried it and sure enough, I found a compact car (manual) for only $24/day plus taxes, including a 22PBP airport fee (UGH!). Still though, this is the best deal I have ever found for UK rentals. The best parts of the deal is that one way rentals in the UK incur no drop charges and it is no longer required to be travelling on British Airways to book cars (the FAQ specifically says this). I can even reserve using a Diners Club so I can get primary insurance coverage. Some services like Priceline still don't allow DC. They even give a free upgrade for reservations made far in advance (I took advantage of that once).

From a couple of previous rentals, I don't get Club Gold service but still, it's a good thing. If anyone has any discount codes or tips for getting deals on UK rentals, I'd like to know about them. I thought I'd mention this for anyone who might find this information useful.
