Depends on what time you go. At times they don't have a dedicated scanner for fasttrack, instead just use fasttrack to put you higher up in the queue. Not infuriating at all!
I don’t mind this though, it’s very inefficient to keep a separate scanner. As long as it leads FT to the front (which it does), allowing people from the regular queue to fill any slack in the operation increases throughput for everybody. The alternative is an operation like VIE, where the FT staff are frequently sitting around waiting for someone to show up while the regular queue is long, hot and stressful.
