That's what I used to do, but after a late night cancellation of LHR-MAN the other week, I'm never doing it again. Might have just been the hour (it was gone midnight), but we were ferried to the border to leave LHR. Most had passports as had come from connecting flights, but I didn't. And because I only had a licence I was forced into the queue with 40-50 other people who were having full document/visa checks by border guards.

I confess that after about 15 minutes of the queue not moving at all, I took advantage of a staffer taking people out of the queue and up to the desks who had certain visas/passports and just walked out with them. Deployed a combination of pretend confusion and indignation as to why I was suddenly loitering behind a family from India, but it worked.

But yeah, in the future, passport only for me.
