Hotel: U14 Helsinki, Autograph Collection
Status: Titanium
Booked: Comfort Room (closet-sized)
Received: Corner Room
NUA applied: Yes, for Corner Room, but it was declined. Nevertheless, the Corner Room appeared in the app the day before arrival.
Benefits: Breakfast, late check-out, points
Stay duration: 1 night
Check-in: Very friendly and competent

Notable details / Recommendation:
  • Location: Right next to the Kauppahalli and the harbor.
  • Hotel: From the outside, it looks like an office building, but inside it's quite modern and playfully decorated.
  • Room: The hotel has only two suites, which are not part of the NUA pool. An Ambassador checked in next to me and received a suite. I applied a NUA for the highest possible category (Corner Room), which was, as usual, declined. However, I still received a Corner Room, which at around 30 m² was significantly larger than the other rooms. For Finland, this is really spacious, and we liked it a lot. The bathroom, with natural light, featured both a shower and a bathtub.
  • Breakfast: Very good, available until 2 p.m. on weekends. Many locals come here for breakfast on weekends. The selection is fantastic for Finland. Pancakes are not included in the price, but the 10 euros are well worth it. We had breakfast at 8 a.m. and then ordered pancakes at 1 p.m. They even offered us the option to help ourselves again at the breakfast buffet, which I personally found a bit too bold.
  • Lounge: No lounge available.
  • Restaurants: Looked good, but not tested.
  • Bar: Same as restaurant.
  • Gym: not tested
  • Late check-out: Proactively offered until 4 p.m.
  • Service: Consistently at a very high level. Only about half of the staff speaks Finnish, but this is typical in Helsinki. English works everywhere.
  • Parking: Around 28 euros per night at a nearby public parking garage. Upon check-in, you receive a 20% discount voucher for the parking garage.
  • Airport transfer: About 30 minutes by car. Public transport is a bit more complicated since you first need to take the tram to the main train station. Overall, I would estimate about 60 minutes.
  • Recommendation: I used to stay frequently at the Katajanokka, but it has left the chain. I like the U14 much better, as it’s more upscale, and the rooms are larger—huge by Finnish standards.
