As a Marriott Platinum, it is tough that Marriot still charges resort fees for reward redemption. I believe Hilton waives that for their top elites.
However, I stay with Marriott because of their large footprint. I have only had to stay at Best Westerns or some other non global hotel a relative handful of times due to no Marriott hotel close by.
