Ive done 8pm ewr-west coast (1am) - Tokyo (5am) deliberately before. Not fun but no choice due to scheduling
That meant UA79 to NH819 which is also listed on the UA website. However, UA booking EWR-MNL always puts via SFO first then UA79 to NH819 below the SFO options
