Some of western part of the island grow banana plants that are covered with a protective cloth. You can see it on google maps. The grey, white or silver squares are all banana plantations like in the picture.

If you like hiking and nature, I recommend staying in the other parts of the island as the part with the covered bananas is quite ugly.
Teide and the Anaga mountains are breathtaking. Anaga reminded me of Napali Coast but with Spanish food. However, the hotels there focus on catering to hikers not on luxury,
