Last night - she was on CX565 TPE-HKG on an Economy Light tix and as OWE (I am husband of OWE https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...l#post36514073 ), her friend was on CX473. She applied to same day change to CX473 and was approved, though TPE check in did make a show and dance about not being able to approve such "fee waiver" every time.
My datapoint as a GO a few weeks ago was that the change fee penalty must be paid, if I want to take the flight 1 hour earlier. I did not have a friend taking an earlier flight though.
