It seems like you can use miles to pay for united credit card annual fees:

Does anyone know the rate for this? If it's at least $0.01/mile, then this would seem to be a good deal compared to normal Untied club membership, which costs 75,000 miles/year but would be only 52,500 miles/year with the United club card at $0.01/mile. On top of that, I just got an offer for a club card with 80,000 bonus miles. So are they effectively paying me extra free miles to accept a UA club membership for a year?

I'm constantly on the fence about the club card, because as much as I fly UA, I'm based in SFO, where I prefer the Centurion club to the United club, while the other benefits are highly duplicative of what you get anyway for being 1K. I do find the EWR club kind of nice, and hate the food options in terminal C (pre-made sandwiches are terrible, and the hot options take a long time and aren't convenient to bring on board) while the EWR UC has above-average fare. If other clubs were similar, I might be tempted (e.g., Star Alliance lounge in TBIT is very far from UA gates at LAX, so UC would be convenient, but is the LAX club food as good?)

Basically I'm trying to justify getting this card. Can anyone help me justify it? It's almost like the benefits are custom designed to be useless to 1K flyers, particularly if they already have an Amex platinum card:
  • UC membership - good on EWR-SFO when I'm flying in Y, but everywhere else either UC seems terrible, or I have access to another lounge with Amex platinum/priority pass, or I have UC access anyway on an international itinerary or EWR/BOS-SFO on C, or several of the above.
  • 4x miles on United purchases - useless because I have miles coming out my ears and prefer to get points like Amex MR that I can use for hotels or full-PQP-earning flights
  • Free checked bags - useless for 1K
  • Premier access - useless for 1K
  • Free global entry - duplicative of Amex, and worth only $25/year anyway
  • 25% back on in-flight food - useless for 1K
  • 25% off of WiFi - maybe useful, but does it work if I pay with miles, or just with the card? I'd do it for free WiFi, but 25% off of something I usually pay with miles is not very exciting.
  • Premier upgrades on award tickets - I generally use my miles for Polaris, but maybe if there were upgrades confirmable at time of booking?
  • IHG platinum / Avis president's club - maybe worth something?
  • Concierge service - is this better than Amex? I find Amex concierge not super useful, but maybe if I could email them it would be better. Has anyone had good experience with the visa infinite concierge?
  • PQP - seems like maybe you can now earn PQP towards 1K without segments (though I don't 100% trust this because they use to make it look like you could in the credit card fine print until you read the fine print on the status qualification page). Still, I don't see myself shifting significant spend to this card compared to Amex where I need to hit the Centurion club minimum spend and get good value from MR points.
Does the Chase card allow virtual credit card numbers? I use a no-frills capital one card for most of my online purchases because I like the virtual numbers I can just kill to avoid worrying about spurious charges or end a subscription. So I could see maybe using the club card as my "top-of-wallet" card for online purchases if they have some kind of good security story.

Anything else I might be missing from my analysis?
