They don't like you consuming your own food but unless you're preparing a picnic-style layout across the table I can't envision this being an issue.
based on my experience, the steward/stewardess will ask you to keep your food away politely. i think it's their way of nudging you to buy their food and drinks, which are way overpriced.
it also seemed to me that OP is talking about the basic seat, not scoot plus. i dont recall full fledged airlines being 2-3x more. my quick search showed SQ was only about 35% more
