Any voluntary change forfeits PlusPoints in that direction.
I don’t think most agents would preserve the upgrade here. I agree that they could.
So, in what IRROPs situation would they even entertain changing the destination? Supposed to fly to TPE during Typhoon Krathon and they said any destination change is going to be considered a voluntary change --unless the original flight is cancelled. Wouldn't even let me re-route to US-HKG-TPE so I'd be better positioned in case there were massive cancellations at TPE (since HKG-TPE would be operated by a partner). That one makes more sense. The alternate city change seems more reasonable and within their control though.
Didn't agents try to keep the PlusPoints upgrade when there were IRROPs in the past? I guess it depends on how one defines IRROPs. General waiver vs. you actually misconnect or your flight is cancelled/delayed.
