By way of understatement, the current situation is rather fluid.

In your situation, I probably wouldn't have gambled on the Virgin option when you made the change a few weeks ago. I would have put myself on LY and hoped for the best. But what is done, is done.

If it were me, I would cancel the BA ticket, get a refund, and set about finding the best (or least worst) option. At the moment, I think things are going to get worse before they get better in October. Good luck.
