Indigo Barcelona Plaza Espana
Here for one night on a cash rate as a Diamond Ambassador. The Intercontinental was full when I reserved (sadly). At the 260 euro rate that I paid, this hotel disappoints.
Quick 26 euro taxi from the airport. Check in took way too long. She did not offer breakfast as a Diamond amenity, so I had to ask. She checked and said nothing other than when breakfast is serviced.
The halls and rooms are inappropriately colorful and busy. The whole place reminds me of a Mercure or Ibis property.
The flooring in the room is that cheap fake wood planking that curls up on the edges when it gets wet. Also, the hotel was only re-branded this year, but nothing seems to have been renovated. There are no electric outlets by the bed, only one down on the floor behind an end table. My phone is currently dangling over the sink in the bathroom being charged.
All I wanted to do after getting to the hotel after flying in was to sit down in my room. No such luck. There is a tiny bench made for dolls or small children. There is a small blue seat suitable for a child’s vanity. And there is a small end table doing duty as a real table. I have no idea what 17 year old design student came up with these furnishings, but they have not spent one night in a hotel room.
So, then we headed down for a beer and some food at the restaurant. The beer was good and reasonably priced. The food was about twice the price of local options. There was also nobody in the restaurant, so we worried about how fresh things might be. The room looked more like a cafeteria than an expensive restaurant.
We left the hotel and had a pizza a few blocks away. Google maps did not show any good options nearby.
This is barely a 160 euro hotel in over-priced Barcelona, not a 260 euro hotel. I do not see us coming back. While I do not love the Hilton, it was the same price and would have had a lounge and a class-ier product. I am trapped trying to get my last few IHG nights for Diamond with 70 nights, but this is painful.
