I observed on a recent flight a couple who tried to board together and they let one of them board between the A and B groups, but didn't let the other one board. No idea what the situation was but they were both irritated- the one who was allowed to board ran back to the podium and was questioning the situation. It held up boarding for close to 3 minutes.
